COMMON QUESTIONS
FAQs - Millwork in St. Louis
What our clients most commonly ask before beginning a millwork project.
What types of millwork do you produce?
We produce the full range of architectural interior millwork: custom furniture, timber tops and live-edge surfaces, barn doors and sliding systems, ceiling coffers and beams, crown moulding and trim packages, hardwood flooring, and built-in cabinetry. Most projects combine several of these elements into a cohesive interior package.
How far in advance should we engage Scobis?
For complex millwork packages or whole-home interiors, we recommend engaging us during schematic design or design development, ideally 3-4 months before installation. This gives us time to develop shop drawings, finalize materials, and align production with your construction schedule. Smaller or standalone pieces have shorter lead times we can discuss during consultation.
Do you serve all of St. Louis and the surrounding area?
Yes. We’re based in St. Louis, MO, and serves residential and commercial clients throughout the greater metro area including Chesterfield, Clayton, Ladue, Kirkwood, Webster Groves, and Town and Country. We also work with architects, builders, and contractors across Missouri and the broader Midwest, including Illinois, Kansas, and surrounding states. Whether you’re renovating a single room or outfitting a full commercial build, our team manages the project from our St. Louis workshop through final delivery and installation coordination on-site.
Can you match existing millwork profiles already in my home?
Yes. Matching existing profiles is one of our specialties, particularly for renovations and additions where consistency with original millwork is critical. We work from physical samples, photographs, and measurements, and can produce custom knives to mill matching profiles that aren’t available as stock.
Do you take on full interior millwork packages?
Yes. Many of our clients engage us to handle the complete interior millwork scope, from entry details and stair systems through case goods, built-ins, flooring, and ceiling elements. Having one fabricator for all wood elements ensures material continuity, consistent finishing, and simplified project coordination.
Do you provide shop drawings and CAD documentation?
Yes. Shop drawings are a standard part of every millwork project. We produce detailed CAD drawings for your review and approval before fabrication begins. For complex installations, we also provide 3D renderings to help you and your design team visualize the finished result.
Can we visit the facility during production?
Absolutely. We welcome client and design team visits to our Chesterfield, Missouri facility. Seeing your project in progress is often valuable for making finish decisions, understanding the scale of work, and confirming details before assembly. We coordinate visits based on the stage of production.
Do you coordinate directly with our architect or general contractor?
Yes, direct coordination with your design and construction team is standard practice. We participate in pre-construction meetings, respond to RFIs, provide shop drawing submittals through your standard review process, and coordinate delivery and installation scheduling with your GC. Clear communication across all parties is how we protect your schedule.
